What is a desktop pet?
A desktop pet is a small animated character that lives on your desk: it walks along the bottom of the screen, reacts to windows you move, and occasionally naps. The idea is older than app stores, and that is the point — it asks for nothing and keeps you company.
A Shimeji skin pack describes one such character: a folder of images for each action plus a plain-text configuration. Shimeji-ee popularized the format, so years of community packs exist for characters of every kind. LiteMoe speaks that same format.
Import a skin pack in three steps
Import it in LiteMoe
Open the LiteMoe panel, choose Import skin pack, and pick the archive you downloaded. Drag-and-drop works too, once a pet is on your desk.
Say hello
LiteMoe unpacks the pack and the character walks onto your desk. Switch, resize, or retire it from the same panel at any time.
What is inside a pack
A conf.ini-style configuration lists the actions; an img folder holds the frames. Multi-character packs keep one subfolder per character, and LiteMoe lets you pick which one to load.
Packs that follow the Shimeji-ee layout import as they are. If a pack behaves oddly, it is usually a renamed folder or a missing frame — re-downloading fixes it more often than editing.
Frequently asked questions
Windows shows a SmartScreen prompt. Is that normal?
Yes. LiteMoe is not code-signed yet, so Windows asks before running a new file. Check that you downloaded it from this site, then choose More info and Run anyway. If the prompt names a different source, delete the file and download it again here.
macOS refuses to open the app
Same story on macOS: until the app is notarized, Gatekeeper asks on first launch. Verify the download came from this site, then right-click the app and choose Open once — after that it starts normally.
Is there a Linux version?
Not yet. The engine supports Windows and macOS only for now, and the download page only lists builds that exist.
stable or preview?
stable is the default and the safe choice. preview ships new features earlier and may misbehave; you can switch channels in the updater at any time.
Community packs are made by their authors. LiteMoe lists no recommended sites and takes no cut — choose any pack, from anywhere.
